A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, James Short graduated, cum laude, from the University of Richmond in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received his law degree in 1986 from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary. After graduating, Mr. Short was admitted to the Virginia State Bar. He started his career as an AssistantCommonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Portsmouth and held that position for four years. He has been in private practice since 1991.
